On this day in 1959, the UN Assemble adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, and on the same day in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention, which is the most widely ratified international human rights treaty, sets out a number of children’s rights including the right to life, to health, to education and to play, as well as the right to family life, to be protected from violence, to not be discriminated, and to have their views heard.
Underpinning every single aspect of The Hope Foundation’s work in Kolkata is our belief in a world where it should never hurt to be a child.
Not only are we working to achieve every aspect of the Convention, we are also working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. All of the SDG’s are relevant to children, from No Poverty, Zero Hunger and Quality Education, to Climate Action, Responsible Consumption and Gender Equality.
Children are our future, and for HOPE, every day is Universal Children’s Day. We truly hope today brings awareness around the world of the need to nourish and protect all of the children in the world, and the necessity to achieve the basic human right of a full, happy life.
