Today we are really delighted to launch our #WeAreListening Christmas Campaign #HOHOHOPE.
This year we wish to highlight a story of a little girl who is in the full time care of HOPE. The beautiful face you see pictured here is Angel (name changed), she is trying on a Christmas Hat during her first Christmas with HOPE. It is like she is trying on Christmas for the first time, and taking in all that it means; the magic, the hope.
There was a time when she did not know where she was going to sleep at night and she was always terrified. Her father had abandoned them and her mother was struggling to find a safe place on the streets for them to lie down, but nowhere was safe, there was danger everywhere, and even at just 3 years of age Angel knew it.
Can you imagine laying your children down to sleep on the dirty hard and cold ground of the streets where dangers and predators lurked at every corner?
Can you imagine the fear? Trying to fall asleep beside your child knowing that something could happen to them while you closed your eyes even for just a moment. Tonight most of us know that our children are in a safe home, all cosy and warm and looking forward to Christmas like all children should. But as we launch this Christmas Campaign, there are tens of thousands in Kolkata who cannot say the same.
We have helped so many thousands already and with your continued support we can help so many more, beautiful little Angel’s mother brought her into HOPE’s care and she now has a safe place to live, she is now 8 years old, is a bright and intelligent girl with great interest in her studies. Despite the trauma of her earlier life, Angel, all of us at HOPE, and you, can believe in a different future for her. Her story and her life have been transformed because of you, your donations in the past created a different possibility for her, a different ending to a story when she once believed her fate was sealed.
This Christmas we appeal to you to listen to the plight of the street and slum children in Kolkata. Through your donation, you are choosing to give a different ending to a story and a life that began with no HOPE. We are committed to doing what we can for children like Angel but we urgently need your help to do more this Christmas.
You can purchase a gift of HOPE on hopefoundation.ie and help us to clothe and educate children like Angel or families like hers who are struggling to survive on the streets. Just 35 euro can provide educational stationary and toys, 50 euro can provide a hospital care pack.
